QuintDaily Report: Person slaughtered in the wake of being hit by traveler prepare in Palmerston North.
The Wellington to Auckland train Northern Explorer travels under the Longburn-Rongotea overbridge. It’s the first passenger service through the site since a person was hit by the Capital Connection.Police say they were called to the scene around 7:30pm, where they found a body on the tracks.The incident happened on the No.1 Line near Longburn.Police are now carrying out an investigation at the scene.
The Coroner found his death was the result of him falling down between the rail lines as he attempted to walk home to Bunnythorpe.A Kiwirail spokeswoman said the train was the Capital Connection service from Wellington. The accident happened around 2km from Palmerston North.
The train is expected to shortly arrive at Palmerston North. Any further details on the incident should be sought from the police.It is not yet known if the Tuesday evening service from Wellington to Palmerston North will go ahead. KiwiRail would make a decision on Tuesday afternoon.
