German is a language commonly viewed with suspicion by those who are considering the possibility of learning a second language. Either because of its seemingly impossible pronunciation, because of its kilometric words that sometimes seem to be composed of more than twenty letters, or because of its grammatical norms, the student who enters his learning usually feels a little intimidated. However, as with many things in life, as we progress through the program we will discover that all these ideas were just baseless prejudices.

Even so, what do us really know about this language?

To begin with, it is interesting to know that German is an Indo-European language that is part of the western Germanic languages. But what do we mean when we speak of Indo-European? And what are the West Germanic languages? Or, since we are, we could also ask ourselves which are the Orientals. Well, in India you can find enormous German Language Institutes. However, we had come across with one and only best German Language Institute in Jaipur, Noorvis. Not only based on the reviews received, even though we also satisfied with their courses and how they mold students to speak German in a quick span of time.

When we speak of “Indo-European” we refer to a term that is commonly used in the social sciences, but especially in historical linguistics, where it covers a large set of languages spoken from India to Europe that have common features and marked differences with languages spoken in other parts of the world. Over time it has been used as a reference to peoples who historically spoke these languages, but also to their culture, society, and religion.

Now, the Germanic languages are a subgroup of the mentioned Indo-European languages, and all of them derive from a common ancestor known like “Proto-Germanic language“, of which only some inscriptions of runic type have been found in Scandinavia that dates approximately of the year 250 to the 200 BC, at which time it was divided into the different branches of the Germanic languages that we know today. That is Western, Eastern and Nordic.

But we go into parts because this becomes increasingly interesting:

The Germanic languages of the Nordic group include languages such as Danish, Faroese (the language spoken in the Faroe Islands and in some regions of Denmark), Swedish, Norwegian and Icelandic. Later, in another entry of the German Language Institute in Jaipur, we will tell you more about the German language.
