The modern development of artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionary in our post-industrial world. AI has the potential to have a major impact in the education – on learning and research along with campus operations, including face recognition, attendance tracking, and accessibility. An important part in the evolution of technology will be played by artificial intelligence. Vineet Gupta, MD of Jamboree Education opines, “AI can help in different domains and bring about significant change in the education sector. For instance, it is well understood that students have varying capacities for assimilation of information. But it is not possible for teachers to repeat their lessons constantly; nevertheless, AI may be employed to assist slow learners. With the use of AI, the area of personalized learning will expand significantly.”

United Nations has stated that India’s educational system needs to put more of an emphasis on artificial intelligence. However, due to the wide digital gap, experts have expressed concerns about how such a strategy would actually evolve. As a result of recent advancements and their effects on several fields including education, AI applications are becoming more and more widespread in India. As per Business Today, AI will be used in 47% of learning management applications by 2024. Additionally, between 2019 and 2025, the AI market for the education sector is anticipated to grow by 40.3%. AI will be the driving force in the advancement of online education as it is estimated to grow to $1.96 billion by 2021. An educator’s work cannot be replaced in educational institutions, but AI will help and make it better.

“The use of technology could make it easier for teachers to monitor student progress and evaluate their skills on-the-spot. It may pinpoint a person’s strengths, deficiencies, knowledge, and rate of learning. Students can receive tailored curricula, assessments, learning strategies and quality with the aid of AI. We can develop the potential solution to enhance each student’s ability to comprehend resulting in better academic outcomes by fusing artificial intelligence with the educator’s expertise. What can be difficult for teachers to manage and impart, can be made easier with AI,” states Vineet Gupta Ashoka University Founder.

The goal of artificial intelligence in education is to promote students’ learning and research, but evidence from other AI fields suggests that these ethical objectives are insufficient on their own. There is a need to take into account matters like equity, responsibility, openness, autonomy, bias, and inclusiveness. Ethics should be thoroughly thought out because abuse of AI can have a detrimental effect on security, privacy, and other aspects. The policy maker’s approach to the overall internet governance has always lagged, which often poses challenges. Given how swiftly technology is evolving, regulation is likely top be delayed. “AI will play little function if it can only benefit one particular section of our society. Prioritizing AI ethics in education requires establishing a comprehensive legislative framework, forming successful public-private partnerships and getting rid of prejudice and any form of bias in algorithms. Although there are valid reasons to be optimistic about the technological potential of artificial intelligence in education, caution must be used to ensure that proper human needs are taken into consideration, rather than just the technological needs for the usage of AI in classrooms,” highlights Vineet Gupta, Jamboree Education’s MD and Founder.

Students may suffer aesthetically if the use of constant technology impairs their artistic perception, responsivity or if it limits their creative potential. A recurring concern is the possibility that when intelligent systems go beyond human comprehension, people may start to lose their intellectual curiosity. With significant ethical ramifications for students, teachers, parents and lawmakers, AI in education presents broad-ranging problems. Most of the key interests are influenced by ethical considerations, such as the learners engaging with AI education systems, the techniques used by them, projections of educational objectives, problems of equity, transparency, accountability, and concerns about the effect of AI and analytics on decision making process of the educators.

AI is prepared to completely overhaul and re-imagine the educational system. The vision of education and the entire notion of learning will be shaped by willingness of the educators to embrace technology. But there is a delicate line to maintain which the policymakers and the industry at large must be accountable for. “The significance of dealing with ethics is acknowledged by many AI education researchers.

The premise behind AI-based education is that by early exposure to this technology, we may develop an understanding about this groundbreaking technology in young students, while disregarding the traditional, outdated methods of teaching and learning. Yet, we need to take care that AI does not tinker with the development of creativity and critical thinking. The policymakers should take swift action to keep up with the rapid advancement of AI. Our drive to enhance the quality of education delivery leads most of us to seek AI solutions. While pursuing that objective is right, there is more we can do and apply AI more rapidly to improve access”, asserts Founder and MD of Jamboree Education, Vineet Gupta
