Everyone agrees mosquitoes are annoying but they are much more than that. Mosquitoes are bloodsuckers that can not only cause illness but can also damage your property and landscape. If you have a landscape full of beautiful vegetation, there is a chance it can be degraded if you cannot control the “mosquito plague”.  They breed very easily so preventive measures are often the best solution. How can they harm your landscape? Here are the points!

They may be able to damage your plants

All mosquitoes consume plant/tree nectar and sap. Nectar is sweet and they love it, even female mosquitoes. Many people think female mosquitoes only eat blood, which is not true. Female mosquitoes also need nectar to keep them alive during winter. In their quest for nectar, mosquitoes also spread pollen (which is useful for pollinating plants), unfortunately, they can attract a lot of frogs which can physically damage your plants.

They can contaminate any standing water

If your garden features ponds or fountains, be aware of their potential to become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Instead of being a source of beauty, they can be a source of disease. Not only that, but a chronic build-up of mosquito bodies can clog drains and then slowly damage them.

They can be the reason your property value goes down

No one wants to review a property that is full of mosquitoes. Too many mosquitoes can be an indication that your property is not well-maintained, so it can unwittingly signal to potential buyers that your property is not worth it. No one gets excited after seeing a lot of mosquitoes around.

They harm your pets

Mosquitoes can be harmful not only to humans but also pets. They are the perfect medium for various infectious animal diseases such as liver flukes. Liver flukes are one of the classic causes of sudden animal death. If the condition is too severe, any treatment will be difficult to save them. Reducing their population contributes positively to your pet’s health. Of course, infectious diseases are not the only reason why you should get rid of mosquitoes in your yard. Mosquitoes are very irritating to animals and your beloved dog may keep scratching and irritating his own skin.

And of course, they are very dangerous to humans

We don’t need to go into great detail as this is common knowledge. Mosquito bites often mediate dangerous diseases for humans such as malaria, dengue hemorrhagic fever, Zika virus, Chikungunya, and so on.

Mosquito control can be a good investment

Investing in mosquito control can be a good investment. Of course, you will have to pay some money but with it, you can prevent the above losses. If you can prevent the above losses, you can at least prevent your property from further damage. One of the indications of property damage is an uncontrolled mosquito population so controlling their population is one of the efforts to maintain the condition of your property of which the yard is an important part.
